Metatarsalgia

What is Metatarsalgia?

An inflammation of the ends of the metatarsals, at the ball of your foot.

"Ball-of-Foot" pain is another name for Metatarsalgia.

One or more heads of the metatarsal bones can become inflamed and it is more common in women.

Metatarsalgia is not in itself a very serious condition, but there is pain and swelling at the bottom of your foot making it difficult to walk or run comfortably. If left untreated, the pressure can lead to foot lesions and even ulcers.

where is metatarsalgia

What Causes Metatarsalgia?

Excessive pressure on the ball of the foot from ill-fitting, hard shoes that possibly squeeze the foot in to a narrow unnatural position. High impact sport activities with repetitive actions can be a culprit, too.

Arthritis is another possible cause of pain on the ball of the foot, and is more often the cause as we get older. There is also the natural decreasing of the "fat pad" cushion on the bottom of the foot, as we age.

Prolotex™ Socks offer pain relief from Metatarsalgia

Prolotex™ Socks are very effective in reducing inflammation. The FIR energy waves emitted from the socks are very therapeutic, making them very different from just your regular socks.

Prolotex™ Bio Ceramic Socks are soft and do help cushion the bottom of your feet.

Tips to treat pain on the ball of the foot
Take a load off, put your feet up and give your feet a break!
Try to determine the cause of the inflammation. Maybe it's the shoes, but it could be a repetitive action that is creating stress and pressuring the ends of the metatarsal bones.
Maybe invest in an Orthotic foot bed to help spread the weight along a larger surface - reducing the intense pressure just on the ball of the foot .
Wear a fresh, clean pair of Prolotex™ Far Infrared Socks every day to reduce the pain and swelling.
Exercise on moderately forgiving surfaces, rather than hard concrete. If you are a runner, a rubber track is better for your bones.
Take good care of your feet  - you have your whole life ahead of you!
